Recently, I had the opportunity to host Mr. P.L. Muthusekkar, COO of Hailstone Innovations Pvt Ltd. In our discussion, we covered a range of topics concerning the current and future manpower needs of Hailstone. The key objective of the conversation was to understand the specific recruitment plans of Hailstone and also to understand the overall all state of the Future of Jobs for Indians in the CE/Crushing segment.



Hailstone Equipment offers high-quality crushing, screening, and washing systems designed for maximum uptime and durability in challenging conditions. Their product range includes stationary and mobile solutions, such as jaw crushers, VSI plants, and two-stage crushing plants, catering to diverse aggregate production requirements. Hailstone has a track record of delivering successful projects globally, including a 300 TPH project in Dubai and a 400 TPH crushing plant in Tamil Nadu. The company is certified with “CE” and “ISO 9001:2015,” underscoring their dedication to quality, customer satisfaction, and ongoing improvement. With 350 employees, Hailstone is expanding at approximately 20% annually, driven by market expertise and a commitment to the construction industry. The company places a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration for its success.


Hailstone recruits young engineers directly from college across various engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, electronics, and automation to support their internal growth strategies. According to Mr. Muthusekkar, Hailstone plans to hire approximately 50 new employees annually over the next two to four years. They are also broadening their dealer network to correspond with the number of districts and crushing zones across India. For dealership roles, they maintain an open and flexible stance regarding the candidates' core knowledge. Non-engineers are also considered suitable for front sales and business development positions at the dealership level.


Hailstone's core value is to accompany the customer throughout their product's life cycle. Hailstone aims to cultivate long-term relationships with its customers rather than focusing on short-term interactions.


Hailstone has a robust internship program, consistently integrating fresh graduates who experience the rigours of working across various departments and functional areas before being placed into the appropriate role based on their strengths.


Mr. Muthusekkar believes that the impact of AI and Automation on products will take a bit more time in India, as it is still an emerging market. However, they do supply level 2 automated products to international markets, where such standards are required.


To stay abreast of future developments, Hailstone engages their team in various training programs led by external experts and mentors, ensuring that the team members are continually updated and prepared for their current and future roles. With the average age of the Hailstone team in India being only 30 years old, they are highly agile and quick to adopt new technologies.


Hailstone is committed to investing in individuals, particularly those with a technical background in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Automation engineering, as they expand into new geographies and product segments.
